AI tools

Most product copy is written once, quickly, by whoever added the product. It is then never touched again. The AI tools exist to fix that at a reasonable pace: open a product, run an operation, read what comes back, and save it if it is better than what you had.

All four operations run from a product on the Listings page. They act on one product at a time.

What they read, and what they write

This is the thing to understand before anything else.

The AI tools read your Shopify product content: the title, vendor, description, product type and tags. They propose a rewritten version of that same content. When you click Save to Shopify, the proposal is written back to your Shopify product.

That is the entire flow. The AI tools do not write to Amazon, they do not create or edit an Amazon listing, and they hold no separate copy of your content inside the app. What you are improving is the product your own storefront shows.

Note

Publishing product content to Amazon is not currently offered by the app. If you have used an earlier version of these docs, you may remember AI output being stored as a per-market Amazon override. That is no longer how it works. There is one version of your content, it lives in Shopify, and Shopify is where the AI saves it.

The four operations

Translate

Available on any paid plan.

Rewrites the product content into another language. Pick the language in the Target language selector, then run it.

Translation is the operation with the most obvious payoff, because it is the one you genuinely cannot do yourself unless you happen to speak the language. It is also the one to read most carefully before saving, for exactly the same reason.

Spell-check

Available on any paid plan.

Proofreads the copy without changing its meaning. It fixes spelling, punctuation and obvious grammar problems, and it leaves everything else alone.

Use it when you are happy with what your copy says and you just want it clean. It will not restructure your description or make it more persuasive. That is deliberate; a spell-check that quietly rewrites your product is not a spell-check.

SEO & Rufus

Requires the Amazon SEO & Rufus add-on, or AI Pro.

Rewrites the content so it is optimised for two audiences at once:

  • Search, the keyword-driven matching that decides whether your product appears at all
  • Rufus, Amazon's AI shopping assistant, which reads product copy as prose and answers shopper questions from it

Optimising for both matters, because they want different things. Search wants keyword coverage. Rufus wants clear, factual, answerable prose. Copy stuffed with keywords reads badly to an AI assistant, and beautifully written copy with no keywords never gets found in the first place.

Recommendations

Requires the AI recommendations add-on, or AI Pro.

Returns up to six actionable recommendations about the quality of your product content, each carrying a high, medium or low severity.

Recommendations are advisory only, and are never applied automatically. Nothing is changed and nothing is saved. This is a review, not an edit. Use it to work out which products deserve your attention, then use Spell-check or SEO & Rufus to actually fix them.

See Add-ons for how the AI add-ons are priced. AI Pro bundles SEO & Rufus with Recommendations for less than buying both separately.

Nothing is saved until you say so

When you run an AI operation, the result comes back as a preview, shown next to your existing content so you can compare the two. Nothing has been written at that point. You can run an operation, dislike the result, close the product, and your Shopify product is exactly as it was.

The output is committed only when you click Save to Shopify. That writes the previewed content to the Shopify product, and it is the only step in this flow that changes anything.

Warning

Save to Shopify overwrites your existing product content. There is no version history inside the app and no undo button, so read the preview before you save. This matters most on Translate, where you may not be able to judge the output yourself.

One action at a time

The app runs one AI action at a time, with a short gap between them. Click too quickly and you will see:

Please wait a moment before running another AI action.

Wait a moment and run it again. The throttle protects both the built-in AI engine and your own provider account from rate limits, and it cannot be turned off.

What one action costs you

One AI action is one run of one operation on one product. Translating a product into German is one action. Translating the same product into French is another. Running Spell-check and then SEO & Rufus on the same product is two.

Every paid plan includes a monthly allowance of AI actions, and running out returns a "cap reached" message. The Free plan has an allowance of zero, so AI there requires your own API key. See The AI allowance and your own key.

Tip

Buying an AI add-on does not raise your allowance. It changes which operations you are allowed to spend your allowance on. If you are running out of actions rather than running out of operations, the fix is a bigger plan or your own API key, not an add-on.
